Durant's Family Office

Kevin Durant is one of the NBA's highest-paid and most accomplished players, with more than $500 million in career salary earnings, according to Spotrac. Off the court, he has built an active family office and startup portfolio through Thirty Five Ventures (35V), the firm he co-founded with business partner Rich Kleiman in 2016. 35V has invested in more than 100 companies, including Coinbase, Postmates, Acorns, Dapper Labs, TMRW Sports, and Rec, according to Hustle Fund and 35V.

Durant isn't alone, a growing number of professional athletes are setting up their own family offices to manage the wealth they build off the court, as endorsement deals and business ventures increasingly rival their playing salaries. LeBron James took the same route back in 2005, co-founding his family office, LRMR, with childhood friends Maverick Carter, Randy Mims, and Rich Paul to negotiate his endorsements and manage his investments.

His 204x Headline Making Deal

Kevin Durant invested $100,000 in Hugging Face's seed round and $150,000 in its Series A, a total of $250,000, according to Celebrity Net Worth. The investment was made through Thirty Five Ventures.

Nvidia, the leading maker of chips used to power AI systems, has reportedly agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12.9 billion, according to The Information, with the report also confirmed by Forbes and TechCrunch. Neither Nvidia nor Hugging Face has publicly confirmed the deal, per The Source.

At the reported $12.9 billion acquisition price, Durant's stake is projected to return more than $60 million, roughly 240x his original investment. The exact payout is unknown because Durant's current ownership stake has not been disclosed and later funding rounds likely diluted early investors.

Hugging Face was valued at roughly $2 billion after a $100 million funding round in 2022, according to Yahoo Finance. It later reached $4.5 billion before the reported $12.9 billion acquisition price.
